Will this network storage system work on my network set up?
I am debating on purchasing a network storage device similar to this one (http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/prod… It connects via Ethernet cable to your network.
I live in a large group home with multiple routers. The setup is as follows.
The internet –>> connected to a multiple 10/100mbs ethernet hubs –>> the wires connected to the Hub connect to multiple wireless Linksys routers –>> our computers connect to the routers wirelessly
If I connect the network storage device to an open hub in the 10/100mbs ethernet hub port, will connect laptops be able to view it. In other words will it work?

I want to host pretty much a storage space for stuff for my website… i have a computer i could use as a server. I would like to use a linux OS… how would i do that? any one know of any good tutorials? and i would also like to use this as a place to back up my and run my home network.. could i do this too? and still use linux and would the linux net work be compatible with both windows and mac?

Best type of wireless storage?

Yea, I know a flash drive doesn’t have network capabilities, what I meant by a flash drive is that I can take it where ever I go. Sorry for the confusion.

Why is my Home Network so slow?
Hello, I have a wireless network at home, attached to which is a Network Attached Storage device (Network External Hard Drive).
The setup is:
DLINK wireless gateway (it’s router configured as gateway), with my Hard drive plugged into this wireless gateway, and the wireless gateway plugged into the wired DSL modem.
for some reason, when transferring data from my pc to the external drive, I get ridiculously slow transfer rates. When on wireless, I’m lucky if I get 1 mb per second - but is normally around 600 kb per second. And even when I use the ethernet cable (plugged into the wireless gateway) I still struggle to get 5 mb per second.
Windows reports my wireless network speed as 54 mbps, and my wired speed as 100 mbps. Both the gateway & laptop are in the same room - just a few feet apart. I’ve also upgraded all my network cables to Belkin cat 5e in case that was the problem, but did little to help.
Can anyone suggest what might me the problem, or how I might found out the source of the problem?

Hi,
I want to build a home server out of spare parts for extra storage and media streaming etc, was thinking of using a Linux distro as the OS. I want to be able to read and write to it from a Mac and Windows so i’m not sure how to format the drive? Mac has issues with NTFS, I’ve heard there’s some software out there like Macfuse that might help me. But then there’s FAT32 which both can write to but i believe can only hold files 4gb or less?

home network problem?
i have 4 pc’s all running windows home through a dlink dsl 504t router, i can see three of the pc’s from my pc but number 3 pc keeps telling me i don’t have permission to access this network. and number 3 is the pc i was going use for storage and backup. the network was fine when i first installed it but a few days later it’s all over the place.. any ideas?

i am looking at building a home server,however i dont have the funds to buy a specific HP MediaSmart Server so i have a spare tower pc which i plan to use,however is it up to the task…its specs are :
AMD Semprom 2.2ghz
1gb of pc3200 ddr ram (will upgrade to 2gb)
2 x 250gb sata HDD
Onboard vga ( intel gma)
Realtek ac-97 audio (onboard)
gigabit nic
4 x fans(2 x 92mm / 1 x 80mm / 1×120mm) for optimal cooling !
i shall also add a 500gb external hard drive (ide) to one of the systems spare usb ports for additional storage
i will be using windows home server
would this system be up to the task….?
any help will be much appreciated

What is a good resource for knowledge on networking and other technology subjects?
I am looking to bring my knowledge of networking, mobility, applications, information security and storage up to date. To do this I am looking for an online resource to access and start learning from home in my spare time.
I am in tech sales, so I don’t need to understand how the technology is programmed etc, just a solid understanding of how things work and fit together, so that I can talk compitently to clients.
